South Australian-based residential aged care, home care and retirement living provider Helping Hand has a resource to support Forgotten Australians accessing care services.

The resource, Forgotten Australians, Real Care the Second Time Around aims to assist aged care providers in understanding and supporting the needs of older people who have experienced trauma in their early stages of life while in state and institutional care.

On Wednesday 13 February 2019, the Premier released the Honourable John Hill’s Independent Assessor Report on the Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme.  The report provides information on the scheme, as well as key messages emerging from personal stories shared by applicants.  It does not reveal the names of any applicants.

Client Focused Resource: It’s Not Your Fault – Booklet

This booklet was written by men who have experienced childhood sexual abuse to help other survivors. It shares stories of survival, hope and healing. The booklet addresses the strong sense of shame and self-blame men can feel about being subjected to child sexual abuse.

Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry

The Mullighan Inquiry was enacted in 2004 by the Parliament of South Australia to investigate allegations of abuse of children in state care.
Commissioner Mullighan presented the report to the government of the Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry and Children on the APY Lands Commission of Inquiry on 31 March 2008 and 30 April 2008.

Report: The Life They Deserve

On 5 August, 2016, Justice Margaret Nyland delivered her Royal Commission report, “The life they deserve”, to the Governor. The report contains 260 recommendations for improvements to the South Australian child protection system.
